Alcoholic almost five times the limit

-

A CHRONIC alcoholic who drove while almost five times the legal limit has been fined and disqualified from driving.

Robert Jack, 54, of Balunie Avenue, was also ordered to resit his driving test before taking to the road again by Sheriff John Rafferty.

Dundee Sheriff Court heard Jack had been sitting in his car along with a passenger at around 4.30pm on Monday. The vehicle was stationary at a junction. A witness drew up behind in his car and Jack reversed his own vehicle.

After police were called he was breathalysed and found to be almost five times over the drink limit.

His solicitor Michael Short told the court Jack was not in good health. He said: “He has a chronic alcohol problem and this was him drinking heavily the night before.

“It wasn’t about him having a drink and driving the car. He thought he would be OK. It will be impossible for him to work again in his condition, his health is so bad. He can hardly walk any more than a short distance.”

Jack admitted that on Monday, at Craigie Place, near to Craigie Drive, he drove with excess alcohol (106 mics).

The sheriff fined Jack £600 and disqualified him from driving for four years.

Sheriff Rafferty also agreed to a crown motion for seizure and forfeiture of his car for which, said Mr Short, he had paid £1,300.
