DUMS squeeze way into final

-

THE Dundee Saturday Morning League’s premier cup competition, in memory of Shaun Kelly, will be contested on June 1 between DUMS and FC Kettledrum.

The Medics secured their slot, beating Doc’s Hibernia 2-1 in a very tight game.

The return of eight of their numbers from placements in Africa did their chances no harm as they showed their best form in this match.

That’s ominous for anyone facing them in the final few games.

FC Kettledrum and Ferry Mechanics shared a half-a-dozen goals in a 3-3 draw which went to spot-kicks.

Kettledrum held their nerve to progress in the shootout and hope to go one better this year having won the consolation cup last year.

They will certainly give the Medics a tight game.

In t he Doc Ferry’s Premier League, it is advantage Hilltown at the top as they drew 1-1 in midweek against their only rivals for the title, Doc’s Hibernia.

The draw left them both tied at the top but, as Hilltown had won their previous encounter, they now need only match the Hibees results in their remaining matches.

They took advantage at the weekend to stretch that lead with Doc’s involved in cup action, rounding off a good week with a 6-3 win against Hawkhill Athletic.

DC Athletic are refusing to go down without a fight and, having led FC Kettledrum 2-0 and missed a penalty, they capitulated to a 3-2 defeat on Wednesday night.

However, they bounced back at the weekend to draw within a point of DUSC, having beaten them 4-3 on Saturday.

With four games remaining, and only six points separating fourth from 10th and the second relegation slot, there may be twists yet.

Dryburgh are now five points adrift at the bottom after a 1-1 draw against Riverside CSC on Saturday which did their hopes of relegation no favours.

That draw could be crucial to Riverside’s participation in the Premier next year.

Fintry Athletic recorded back-to-back wins to go clear in third spot after beating DUMS 3-1 i n midweek and Park Tool 3-1 at the weekend.

St James Athletic and Ferry Mechanics are due to meet this Friday in the Balgay Bar First Division Cup at North End Park.

They had a dress rehearsal for t hat i n midweek with St James’ 100% win record in the league tumbling as they went down 2-1 to a much- improved Mechanics outfit.

At the other end of the table, The Beat’s 3-3 draw against Monifieth Hurricanes put them level on points for relegation along with DK Raiders.

Having beaten the dental students’ team 5-0 in the league earlier in the season, it is advantage The Beat.

With three games left there is plenty to play for.

DK l ost 9-0 against St James.

Stobswell put six past Cannon Fodder, who replied twice through Lennon Brett and David Fyffe.

Bank Street Athletic secured promotion from the Second Division at the weekend with results going their way despite not playing in the league.

They can be caught at the top though by Dundee City, who have games in hand and a tough run-in.

Charlie’s Accies’ 2-1 win over Cleppy Social makes them one of the favourites to go up.
