Cops investigate workplace attack

- BY JAMES SIMPSON AND ADAM HILL

POLICE were called to a Dundee convenience store after a member of staff was left in a “distressed” state following a workplace attack by two women.

Officers went to Scotmid, on Fintry Road, after workers at the store dialled 999 to report a female member of staff being assaulted.

Witnesses initially told of the female worker being set upon inside the store.

However, it is understood the disturbance actually took place outside the front door.

The worker is said to be “distressed” by the incident but escaped serious injury.

Officers were seen carrying out inquiries at the shop and also in the surrounding area.

The store shut early while police investigated the incident and did not re-open until the following morning.

A Scotmid spokesman confirmed the incident had taken place and that police had launched an investigation into it. He added: “An incident took place outside the Scotmid store on Fintry Road, Dundee on Wednesday evening and that is now subject to a police investigation.

“It would be inappropriate to make any further comment.”

The spokesman added that Scotmid takes any incidents involving staff very seriously.

Residents told of seeing police in attendance at the store.

One local spoke of her shock at the incident.

She said: “I saw the shop was closed early.

“The shutters were down long before 10pm when they usually shut up shop.

“I am disgusted to hear about something like that.

‘‘This area seems to be getting worse by the day – it is just shocking to hear about this kind of thing.

“No one should have to deal with any kind of physicality while they are at work – they are trying to earn a living.

“I really feel for the girl who was involved and I hope the people who did it are dealt with.”

A member of staff at the store declined to comment on the i ncident when approached by the Tele.

A Police Scotland spokesman said they had been made aware of the incident, adding: ‘‘Inquiries are at an early stage.’’
