Saints keen to keep Williams

-

ST JOHNSTONE manager Tommy Wright hopes to tie up a deal to keep winger George Williams at the club for longer.

The seven-times capped Wales player arrived in the January transfer window on loan from Fulham.

Tommy said: “We’ve spoken to George Williams’ agent. He’s one we’d like to retain when his loan spell finishes at the end of the season.

“We’re still waiting on clarification from Fulham on his situation because they have an option on him.

“Once that’s decided, we can look to move things on.

“He’s a player who has done well since he arrived here.”

Tommy i ntimated his squad won’t be overhauled in the summer, stating: “Ideally we’d like to secure probably f our outfield players and a goalkeeper.

“We’re already busy and have had meetings with agents about potential signings.

“If we can add four or five to the squad, as well as continue to develop our young players such as Kyle McClean and Alistair McCann, then I think we can mount a challenge for the top six once again next season.”

A young Saints side had a terrific win in the Development League, beating Celtic 2-1 at Lennoxtown.

Oliver Hamilton (16) came off the substitutes bench to net the winner. He’s a Perth lad and he was set up by another product of l ocal youth f ootball, Jamie MacKenzie.
