SECOND CHANCE FOR HIBS IS “INCREDIBLE”

-

HIBERNIAN midfielder John McGinn claims it is “incredible” they are still in contention for second place in the Premiership.

The Championship title holders are three points behind both Rangers and Aberdeen but have already played, and beaten, leaders Celtic in the first match of the post-split fixtures.

Ahead of tomorrow’s visit of Kilmarnock, McGinn said: “I think it’s incredible really that we are even in contention.

“Come the turn of the year, people were talking about how remarkable a season it had been already. We managed to recruit a few great players and it’s taken our game to the next level.

“Aberdeen and Rangers are both really good sides and have been consistent over the season, whereas we have got a run together late on.

“I think we have an outside chance, we are still underdogs, but the manager stresses how close we are to achieving something special.

“It’s something we are hungry to do.We all want to have that achievement. I know you don’t get any medals for finishing second but in this league this year it’s a right good opportunity to do something really special.”

The pressure is on Aberdeen to claim a fourth consecutive runners-up spot while third would represent another blow for Rangers in their attempts to compete with city rivals Celtic.
