‘Kids could have died’

Coach firm boss blasts car driver after school bus hit

- BY ADAM HILL

The Fishers Tours coach was parked outside Grove Academy in Broughty Ferry when a white car careered into the back of it.

The driver of the car then left the scene of the collision.

James Cosgrove, head of Fishers Tours, based at Mid Craigie Industrial Estate, said he dreaded to think what would have happened if the coach had been loaded with children — or if they had been at an adjacent bus stop. He said: “We had a coach parked outside of Grove and a vehicle came down the road – the driver believes it was an elderly woman – and she hit the back and side of the bus.

“She basically just kept on going. There is no way she wouldn’t have noticed.

“This was a bus that was there to pick up kids from the school.

“Kids could have been killed – if they had been on the bus or if they had been at the bus stop.

“What if she had missed the bus and there had been a crowd of kids on the pavement?

“There could have been 40 kids there – you saw with the Glasgow bin lorry crash the type of thing that can happen.

“The fact that this was outside of a school is shocking – if the person was drunk or something like that then people might have lost their lives.”

Mr Cosgrove said the bus had been off the road while the damage was repaired, although the paintwork is still damaged.

He said police were contacted but had yet to interview anyone involved.

He added: “The person must have had something to hide or they would have stopped.

“You wonder if they had been drinking or didn’t have insurance.

“It worries me because there could be something that hasn’t been dealt with that could happen again.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed they were investigating.

He said: “Police Scotland have been made aware of an incident which happened on Claypotts Road, Broughty Ferry, near to Grove Academy, shortly before 11am on Tuesday.

“A car is believed to have come into contact with the rear of a parked coach.

“If anyone saw this incident or has any relevant information, please call 101 and quote incident 1112 of May 1.”

A DUNDEE bus company chief has blasted a hit-and-run driver who slammed into the back of a bus outside a school — saying “kids could have been killed”.
