Man ‘crashed car after leaving pub’

- BY LINDSEY HAMILTON AND ADAM HILL

Police were called to Camperdown Road, close to the Admiral Bar, after reports of a two-car collision.

The road was closed for a time while officers investigated.

It’s alleged the driver of one of the cars had been drinking in the pub moments before the incident happened.

He and another man are then said to have fled the scene before officers traced them and detained a 25-year-old.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said the man had been arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

He said: “Police Scotland attended Camperdown Road at about 9pm on Wednesday in response to a report of a two-car road traffic collision.

“No one was injured, however the 25-year-old male driver of one of the cars involved was arrested at the scene.

“He was subsequently charged with driving under the i nfluence of alcohol and other offences, and released from custody on an undertaking to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court at a later date.”

Witnesses told of seeing a man making off from the scene in the aftermath of the crash, with police in pursuit.

One bystander said: “It seemed like something major had happened outside the pub.

“Police had closed off the road and it was completely blocked off.

“No one could get past and people were wondering what had happened.

“It was quite a shock seeing all the police, it’s not often they close off the road for incidents here.”

Another resident told of seeing police officers attend the scene.

She said: “I saw police outside – they had their lights flashing.

“You always wonder if it is something serious when you see so many police and the road taped off.

“They were there for a good while so I started to think something really bad had occurred.

“This area is quiet – you never really get much trouble around here.”

A MAN has been charged with drink-driving and a series of other offences after allegedly crashing a car moments after leaving the pub.
