An all-Tayside final could be possibility

- BY JUNICUS

CARNOUSTIE and East Craigie look to make it an all Tayside final in the GA Engineering Cup as they head into their respective semis this weekend.

While the Gowfers have home advantage over Stonehaven, the Shipbuilders head north to take on Hermes.

This will be a tough task for Craigie with Hermes one of the top sides in the north.

Should it be level after 90 minutes, a penalty shootout should hold no fears for the Shipbuilders having accounted for Lochee United and Culter in shootouts in earlier rounds.

Robert Smith misses the trip while Jon Rosscraig and Cameron Christie face late fitness tests.

Three-one seems to be a favourite score for Carnoustie in this competition.

That has been the winning margin for them in all three matches before the semis and they would settle for the same again against Stonehaven.

The Gowfers should go into the semi in a relaxed frame of mind after winning their last two league matches to put them five points clear of third bottom Jeanfield. They also have two games in hand.

They followed their seven-goal romp against Jeanfield with a 2-1 win over Forfar West End on Wednesday.

Jamie McCabe opened the scoring in the first minute. Though Robbie George netted an equaliser just on half-time, Ryan Roche fired in a second-half winner for the Gowfers.

Broughty Athletic face the first of two Super League away fixtures as they travel to face leaders Bonnyrigg Rose at New Dundas Park.

The sides have already met this season at Whitton Park where they fought out a goalless draw in early November.

The Fed then face a trip to Fife to face Hill of Beath and then it’s a home clash against Lochee United to wind up their season.

Broughty have announced that goalkeeper Chris McPherson has signed a new one-year deal with the club.

McPherson was signed in January following the transfer of Iain Ross to Ladbrokes League two side Elgin City.
