United fan banned from matches

-

A DUNDEE United fan has been banned from attending all regulated football matches in Scotland after allegedly committing a homophobic assault at Tannadice Park last Friday.

Euan Low, 24, was arrested during the Premiership play-off match against Dunfermline after allegedly acting in a threatening and abusive manner and assaulting a man who was in the course of his employment there.

Low, of Baffies Brae, Dunfermline, appeared from custody at Dundee Sheriff Court and denied both charges.

It is alleged that, on May 4 at Tannadice Park, he acted in a threatening and abusive manner liable to cause fear or alarm, shouted, swore, acted in an aggressive manner, lashed out with his arms, struggled violently and uttered homophobic remarks.

He is further alleged to have assaulted a member of staff at Tannadice by striking him on the head with his elbow.

It is also alleged the assault was aggravated by prejudice relating to the man’s sexual orientation.

Fiscal depute Joanne Smith had initially opposed bail.

However, Sheriff George Way granted bail, with special conditions banning him from attending any and all regulated football matches in Scotland, including junior football.

Sheriff Way said: “I think keeping him away from football grounds is needed.”

Low’s trial was fixed for July 5.
