Clark save paves way for good win

-

ST JOHNSTONE team boss Tommy Wright was pleased to get a 2-1 away victory over Hamilton and dismissed the idea Accies needed the points more.

He said: “They made it difficult for us and the first half was pretty even.

“However, once Zander Clark made the save from the Darian MacKinnon header, we controlled it and deserved to win.

“It was disappointing to lose the goal but we saw it out professionally.

“There are no meaningl e s s g a m e s . Yo u a r e professional footballers. It is your livelihood.

“We were desperate for the win, we proved that, and will be desperate for the win at home to Ross County on Saturday.

“The Hamilton success gives us a chance of seventh place and it guarantees eighth so it was a good win and an important one.”

Tommy went on: “We didn’t play well first half but played much better in the second half.

“I’m pleased David McMillan got another goal and it was a good finish from David Wotherspoon for the second goal.”

McMillan was signed from Dundalk in January but has missed most of the season since due t o a hamstring injury.

He netted after coming on away to Motherwell on Saturday, scoring the last goal in Saints’ 5-1 success. He scored again last night from a spot-kick.

David commented: “When the penalty came, it was good work from George Williams. He got clattered but I’m pleased I could put it away.

“It’s been a frustrating period but it’s great to be scoring. It’s a shame it’s the end of the season but I’m ready for pre-season.”

ST JOHNSTONE are being strongly linked with 23-year-old Colchester United winger Drey Wright.
