Major overhaul needed to ensure a turnaround

-

were turning up more in hope than expectation but backed the players in a manner that was barely deserved.

For the fans, the hope now is that an expected summer takeover provides the resources to bring about the changes necessary to get back up.

As they watched on Friday, the prospect of top-flight football must have seemed a long way off and what was again clear was that, for it to happen next season, there will need to be a major overhaul of the squad.

It’s already been confirmed boss Csaba Laszlo will be in charge next term and he knows he must set about completely rebuilding his team.

It’s unlikely many players on duty at Livingston will still be involved come the start of next season.

That has to be so, because what has been clear for some time now is many of those wearing a United shirt this season have not been good enough to get United to where they need to be.

In his disappointment after the game, Laszlo himself highlighted the fact the third attempt to escape the Championship will not be any easier than the last two campaigns.

He expects the likes of Inverness Caley Thistle, relegated Ross County, Falkirk and the losers of the play-off final between Livi and Partick Thistle all to mount strong challenges.

For United to do the same, he knows there must be major changes in personnel at Tannadice. Because, the truth is, over the last 10 months those currently in the squad have shown themselves not to be up to scratch.
