Body of man, 24, found in his home

- BY LINDSEY HAMILTON

THE body of a 24-year-old man lay undiscovered in his home for “some time”, it has emerged.

Neighbours alerted the police after becoming worried about a smell coming from the house.

When officers arrived at the address in Prosen Road, Kirriemuir, they discovered the body of a man, named locally as Danny Healy.

It is not known how long the body had lain undiscovered.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Police Scotland can confirm it attended an address in Prosen Road, Kirriemuir, shortly after 9pm on Tuesday May 1.

“This was in connection with a sudden death. A 24-year-old man was found within and confirmed to have died.

“There were no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.”

Neighbours said today there had been a smell coming from the house for several days.

One resident said: “People had been saying for some time that they had noticed a smell coming from the house.

“I understand that eventually someone decided to go to the door to find out if there was a problem.

“A woman knocked on the young l ad’s door. When there was no answer she pushed the door and discovered it to be unlocked.

“I was told that when she opened the door a dreadful smell hit her straight away.

“The woman closed the door again and notified the police straight away.”

Another neighbour said that shortly afterwards several police cars arrived in the street.

He said: “I saw them going into the house. Police stayed at the house for several days afterwards.

“This is so sad. I understand that the young man had lain in the house for some time before being discovered.

“I don’t understand how this can be allowed to happen.

“It’s a dreadful thing to happen to a young person.”

Another neighbour said he realised that he hadn’t seen Mr Healy for some time before his body was discovered.

Mr Healy is understood to have attended school in Forfar.

Following his death, messages were left for his family on social media.

One said: “Can’t imagine what you’re feeling right now — my heart goes out to you.”
