Boss calls for responsibility

-

DUNDEE boss Neil McCann is demanding his players take more responsibility when the new campaign kicks off after a poor end to the season.

The Dens gaffer was furious with his side’s 1-0 loss to Partick on the last day of t he season and wasted no time telling them so.

He said: “The players have gone away to rest but my work has already started for next season.

“My work started right after the game to tell them what I expect.

“I expect them to come back next season, t he players who are still here, and know what I demand.

“It can’t be just one, I’m looking for all of us to take responsibility.

“We work things every day in training, I think we’ve been really attractive at times this season.

“We take risks, yeah, from playing from the back to try and draw people in to create gaps and space i n t he forward areas of the pitch where our good players are.

“Saturday’s performance levels alarmed me.

“It looked like we were in holiday mode. I wasn’t in holiday mode and I won’t get a holiday because as a manager you have to try and make your team better all the time.

“You never ever switch off and on Saturday I think too many of our players looked like they’d switched off.

“I reminded them it’s not good enough – the fans expect more and they came in huge numbers.

“To serve up that? No, not having it.”

THE draw for the group stage of the 2018/19 Betfred Cup will be made on Friday, May 25.

Highland and Lowland League champions Cove Rangers and Spartans will join the 38 SPFL clubs not involved in Europe.

The first group games kick off on Saturday, July 14.
