Parking proposal ridiculed

-

PROPOSALS t o make teachers pay to park at schools and i ntroduce charges for council staff has been criticised by the SNP’s finance spokesman in Angus.

Montrose and District councillor Bill Duff ridiculed the suggestion put forward by Independent councillor Colin Brown, the depute provost of Angus, branding it “illthought out”.

Mr Duff was responding to Mr Brown’s radical plans which included a proposal to charge council employees £1 a day at Angus House and potentially bring in £150,000 a year.

A £1 charge for teachers at the town’s three primary schools would bring i n £86,000, according to the Forfar councillor.

Mr Brown suggested no charges for on-street parking with wardens being used to police the streets.

Mr Duff said: “Other large employers in Angus provide staff car parks and none, to my knowledge, expect staff to pay for parking.

“The council must treat its staff comparably with other major employers.”
