ONE of St Johnstone’s top performers in the second half of the season, midfield player George Williams, has been named i n the Wales squad to face Mexico in Pasadena on the 29th of this month.

Williams, on loan from Fulham, has won seven caps for Wales.

He is out of contract with the London club and is not adverse to signing on at St Johnstone permanently.

He said of his time at McDiarmid Park: “I really want to thank everybody at St Johnstone.

“I’ve loved every minute of my time in Scotland and learned so much.

“The l ast game of the season against Ross County at McDiarmid Park was a special day as I was able to bring my son Carter onto the pitch.”

Also i nvolved against Ross County was young central midfield player Alistair McCann.

Saints team boss Tommy Wright said of him: “Ali has forced his way into the first-team squad since the turn of the year.

“He’s a versatile player who could progress into a big player for the club.

“Ali has great energy, he’s a good passer of the ball with both feet and he can change play.

“I see a big future for him and he has done well in his top-team games.”

Meanwhile, as part of his testimonial year events, the club has granted the use of McDiarmid Park to Chris M i l l a r ’s testimonial committee for a match against Aberdeen on July 8 (2pm).

It will be the first public outing for Saints ahead of the 2018-19 season.
