-

WIGAN Athletic, who have been promoted t o t he English Championship, have been keeping tabs on St Johnstone.

The English club, managed by Paul Cook who was a managerial target for Saints when he was team boss at Sligo Rovers, have been represented at a number of Saints games.

They include last Saturday’s home encounter against Ross County.

It’s not known who their target is.

Meanwhile, Saints are keen to bring back midfield men Matty Willock and George Williams who were on l oan to them for the latter half of last season.

Matty was on loan from Manchester United and George from Fulham where he i s soon to go out of contract.

Saints team boss Tommy Wright said: “I would like to keep Matty and he is keen to stay but that is totally out of our hands.

“United might want to wait until August to decide what they want to do with him. We might be able to wait with the emergence of Alistair McCann and Kyle McClean but I would like to get Matty back here.”

Tommy also said Saints will have to “wait and see” regarding the future of Williams, who he also wants back at McDiarmid Park.

As revealed in the Tele yesterday, Williams is in the Wales squad to face Mexico later this month.

Meanwhile, Saints will face Berwick Rangers in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday, July 10. Kick-off at Shielfield Park will be 7.45pm.

Saints also play Aberdeen on July 8 ( 2pm) i n t he testimonial match for Chris Millar.

The long-serving midfield man has been released by Saints but t here are a number of testimonial events lined up for him.
