It’s awards aplenty for Dee Kamara

- BY GEORGE CRAN

IT was a long, tough season for everybody at Dens Park but one man has been a bright light throughout – that man is Glen Kamara and he is Tele Sport’s Dundee Player of the Year.

The Finnish midfielder has shown the class that saw Arsenal pick him up as a youngster and a consistency throughout the campaign that has made him undroppable by manager Neil McCann.

He made more appearances than anyone else in dark blue, only missing one game through suspension, and the consistently high level of performance he’s shown has seen him top our chart – calculated from the match ratings each week.

Forty-six appearances brought an average rating of 6.86 – anything near seven shows an impressive season.

Scott Bain got 6.61 for 2016/17 and 6.88 for 2014/15 while Kane Hemmings got 6.74 for 2015/16 as he scored 25 goals in the top flight which just shows how i mpressive the 22-year-old midfielder has been.

Even so, modest as he is, Kamara couldn’t hide his surprise when told he’d won the prestigious Evening Telegraph Player of the Year award.

“That’s a surprise, wow! I’m really pleased – my first season in Scottish football so I’m just trying to work, keep working on the game and better myself. “Hopefully, I can keep doing that.” Classy touches, tricks and overall control of the play in the middle of the Dundee midfield saw Kamara quickly become a favourite among the Dark Blues support – and saw him awarded Players’ Player of the Year and the Andrew De Vries Player of the Year prizes by the club.

In his first f ull season as a professional after years in the Arsenal academy and a couple of loan spells at Colchester United and Southend United, the Finn has loved the support shown him by the Dens Park faithful.

“The fans have been great since I’ve been here and have really taken to me so I’m delighted to have them by my side,” he added.

Right from the start, Kamara showed
