his ability – gaining a rating of eight from Tom Duthie on his Dundee debut at Raith Rovers way back on July 18, 2017.

Eight-out-of-10 performances against Dundee United, Celtic, Partick Thistle, Kilmarnock, Ross County twice, St Johnstone and Hearts demonstrate just how pivotal Kamara has been throughout the season, even if results didn’t always go Dundee’s way.

His nearest challengers for the Player of the Year crown weren’t too far behind and probably of no surprise to regulars at Dens Park.

Despite only playing for half a season, Jack Hendry was second in our list. His 28 appearances after signing from Wigan Athletic last summer brought an average of 6.75 as he excelled in the centre of the Dundee defence.

His performances piqued the interest of Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers and prompted a seven-figure deal – a Dundee club record – to be cut for the 23-year-old’s move to Parkhead.

Kamara, in his usual manner of few words, described his former team-mate with just the one descriptor: “Baller.”

Hot on Hendry’s heels was Paul McGowan with 6.73 as his superb second half to the campaign led Dundee to survival. And Kamara recognises the competition he’s had to see off to win our yearly award.

He said: “I’m in good company there, they are really good players.

“Jack’s gone to Celtic and I really like playing with Paul. He’s a good player and has the heart of a lion.

“He can play, he puts in everything and I respect the two of them.”
