Daniel’s epic walk
Student hitting the road from Land’s End to John o’ Groats
Daniel Angelosanto, 24, sets off today on a 1,244-mile walk from Land’s End to John O’Groats to raise money for friend Stacia Rose, who lives in Georgetown, Guyana.
Anatomical sciences student Daniel met Stacia while volunteering in the South American country in 2011.
The pair became firm friends and Daniel is now godfather to her child, Sara, 3. He said: “Being 17 in a completely foreign environment, it was pretty bewildering at times.
“When I was working in Guyana, Stacia was my rock. She was always there when I needed help and she could never give too much.”
However, the family hit hard times. Sara has autism and attends a costly special needs school – and Stacia is facing eviction as her landlord is putting the home up for sale.
While she has been offered a government loan to buy a home, it needs a £6,000 deposit.
In a country where the average annual income is less than half that, Daniel says it is “pretty much the EuroMillions jackpot” – and he has decided to help her get the money.
He added: “I was considering using it as an opportunity to fundraise for a charity I volunteer with at uni, but when I heard that Stacia was going to be evicted I just thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do something big to help her instead.”
He aims to make the journey from the south of the UK to the north in three months. And since launching his GoFundMe page a fortnight ago, he has collected more than £1,700 in donations.
According to the World Bank. The average annual income for a Guyanese person in 2012 was $3,410 (£2,530).

A DUNDEE student is set for the walk of a lifetime to raise money for a friend and his god-daughter on the other side of the globe.
