He added: “It is shocking that you would have so many police attend something at that time of the morning.

“The police are here regularly nowadays – it was quiet for a long time but now it seems like things are going downhill.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said they had attended after receiving a report from a member of the public.

The spokesman added: “Police Scotland can confirm it attended in the South Road area of Dundee shortly after 4am on May 21.

“We attended in response to reports of an ongoing disturbance.”

The spokesman revealed that officers had been unable to trace any of the parties involved in the incident at the scene.

However he said that officers were now investigating.

“A number of officers attended, however the incident had ended by the time of their arrival,’’ he added.

“Inquiries into the circumstances are continuing.”

The incident took place just yards from a property which was at the centre of an investigation in February where a woman was found with “severe” injuries – with claims her hand had been severed by an intruder.

A 32-year-old man was arrested by police in the aftermath of that incident, but has yet to appear at court in relation to the charges.
