Curran added to Utd wanted list

DunDee united have lined up another raid on a major Championship rival to boost their strike force for next season.

The Tangerines are already speaking to Dunfermline front man Nicky Clark.

And they also want Ross County’s Craig Curran in their front line.

The 28-year-old Englishman has been with the Staggies since 2015 but is out of contract this summer.

Despite their relegation from the top flight earlier this month, he still managed to hit the back of the net 10 times in 40 appearances over the course of the season.

Curran’s career kicked off with Tranmere Rovers and he went on to have spells with Carlisle, Rochdale, Limerick and Nuneaton before heading north of the border.

United, and city rivals Dundee, have missed out on wide man Michael Gardyne after he penned a new contract at County.

The 32-year-old had been eyeing the chance to move back to his native city after contact from both clubs, but after talks with co-managers Steven Ferguson and Stuart Kettlewell, has committed himself to another year in the Highlands.

Pars goal machine Clark remains very much on the Tannadice radar, as does his East End Park team-mate Fraser Aird.

United have also been speaking to Celtic kid Sam Wardrop and former Hamilton defender Ziggy Gordon.

Meanwhile, injured goalkeeper Deniz Mehmet has signed a new one-year deal with United.

As the Tele revealed on Saturday, United had pledged to stick by the former Turkish youth international after he suffered a serious knee injury in the play-off quarter-final win over Dunfermline.

The 26-year-old Londoner is having surgery in England this week and is unlikely to return much before the end of the year.

His current contract is up next week but United will get him fit again and give him the chance to reclaim the top team spot he won from Harry Lewis in the closing weeks of the season.

With Lewis returning to parent club Southampton at the end of his season-long loan, and Mehmet on the long-term injury list, it goes without saying manager Csaba Laszlo is in the market for another experienced goalkeeper.

Former United star Ryan Gauld has said he is staying at Sporting Lisbon despite speculation he could be on the move this summer.
