Oil mills takeaway plans refused by councillors

PLANS for offices and a hot food takeaway have been refused by Dundee City Council.

Developers had lodged proposals for the change of use of two former units at the former Caledonian Oil Mills on Broughty Ferry Road.

But planning bosses said not enough detail was released about the proposal.

A design statement on behalf of Peter Inglis Architects read: “The whole of the yard behind is in the ownership of the applicant.

“The brick clad upper storeys have been vacant f or some time now and this proposal is to bring them back into use and includes various elevational alterations.

“The public area of the hot food takeaway would occupy the single storey building which is attached to the south elevation.

“The unit is designed to service the docks area as well as the community at large.

“The opening hours would be from 7am, when the staff arrive, until 7pm.”

The refusal report from Dundee City Council stated: “The supporting information does not provide any detail on the nature of the proposed takeaway or explain how it would operate.

“It fails to demonstrate that it would meet the needs of employees and complement existing businesses within the Principal Economic Development Area.

“The applicant has therefore failed to demonstrate the proposed use would be appropriate for the site. There are no material considerations that would justify approval of the application.”
