Foster enjoying his forward role

-

TOWARDS the end of last season, St Johnstone played right-back Richard Foster in a more attacking position.

It’s a fair old effort for the former Aberdeen, Rangers, Bristol City and Ross County man as he shuttles up and down the park for 90 minutes.

Richard described it as “a tough shift” and said: “I enjoy the position and think it suits me.”

His new role has paid off for Saints as statistics showed Richard to be high up the list of players getting in crosses in last season’s Ladbrokes Premiership.

He is under contract to the McDiarmid Park men until the end of next season and was disappointed Saints didn’t finish in the top six again last season.

As he looked ahead to the coming campaign he said: “I want us to get back to where we were. Hopefully, we can do that. It’s certainly our aim.”

Richard’s run of games last season was interrupted by injuries.

Calf, back and hamstring knocks meant he was out of the team for spells.

It was thought his hamstring problem would rule him out for the rest of the season but he made a remarkable recovery to get back i nto the first team before the season’s end.

He went on: “I am feeling strong and still have my fitness and pace.

“The new season isn’t that far away and I am looking forward to it. Hopefully, I’ll be injury free.”

Saints have so far made one close-season signing, bringing i n winger Drey Wright from Colchester.

Now they are being linked with another wide player.

It’s t hought Par tick’s Stevie Lawless is on their radar. He has caused Saints problems i n the past, mostly at McDiarmid where he has scored against them.
