A better showing this time around

-

JEANFIELD Swifts U/15s welcomed Celtic back to Riverside for a second consecutive weekend.

This followed the two teams’ League Cup encounter which Celtic won 10-2.

As in the previous week, Celtic’s pace up front was the main scoring threat.

They also tightened up in midfield and pressed the home side forcefully, resulting in a 6-2 success this time round.

After the Hoops opened the scoring on eight minutes, Jeanfield’s Beth Dakers drew Swifts level.

She struck home an excellent 25 yard free-kick which found the top corner of the goal, giving the visiting keeper no chance as the ball shot beyond her.

Swifts hung on with the scores level until the 30th minute when two green and white shirts stormed through on a ball over the top and Celtic’s one-goal lead was restored.

The game was finely balanced 2-1 in the visitors’ favour at the interval.

Celtic started the second half in the same manner as they had began the game, netting in the 47th minute.

They then took control to move further ahead 19 minutes later.

However, Swifts responded, showing some fire.

Alex Robson’s fine ball downfield found Abbie Ferguson who made no mistake with a powerful shot placed out of reach of the keeper.

The heat then started to take its toll as the match drew to its conclusion.

Two late Celtic goals made the final score 6-2 to the Hoops.

The scoreline left the home team very disappointed.

However, it was a much improved display from the performance of the previous week.
