SALAH MAKES EGYPT CUT DESPITE INJURY

-

LIVERPOOL forward Mohamed Salah has been named in Egypt’s 23-man squad for the World Cup in Russia.

Salah had been a doubt for the tournament after injuring his shoulder during l a s t m o n t h ’s Champions League Final defeat to Real Madrid.

But, after undergoing treatment, he has been selected for his country’s Group A campaign where they will face hosts Russia, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.

The 25-year-old will not meet up with his teammates until the weekend while he continues his recovery.

The news was announced via a post on the Egyptian national team’s official Twitter feed.

Salah left the pitch in tears during the first half of the Champions League Final on May 26 after suffering shoulder damage when he fell and landed awkwardly following a tussle with Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.

However, he has now been included in the Egypt squad, even though he is currently expected to miss their opening game against Uruguay on June 15.

Egypt play Russia on June 19 and conclude their campaign against Saudi Arabia on June 25.

Salah, who scored 44 goals for Liverpool last season, held his nerve to net a penalty deep into injury time in the final qualification game to send Egypt to their first World Cup finals since Italy in 1990.
