Graffiti artists mark the spot with colour purple

GROUPS of graffiti artists painted the town purple when they arrived for an annual painting jam.

Artists from across the UK gathered at Seabraes Railyard for the Dundee Graffiti Jam, which was organised in conjunction with the city’s annual WestFest event.

The Graffiti Jam, which receives no public f unding, has been running in Dundee for 13 years – and this time artists were tasked with creating pieces using the colour purple.

The event – which is organised by the SFMteamUK (Styles for Miles), including local artist Adam Milroy – is the biggest graffiti event in Dundee and the longestrunning of its kind throughout Scotland.

Adam said the SFM team, which has members from all over the UK, also managed to set another record – the longest production by a single crew, with 12 different artists working on the piece.

He said: “This has been a great success – it has become a huge event.

“We had guys up from all over the country – Glasgow, Edinburgh, Liverpool, London and Northern Ireland.

“It is getting more and more popular.

“Every year we try to pick a colour and the idea behind it is that if everyone uses the same colours then it looks like a collective piece of art.”

Many of the artists attending the event also wore a special Styles for Miles purple T-shirt.

Not only did the group spend the day sprucing up the Seabraes boards, they then took to the city centre on Saturday night – with an after-party being held at the Dragons Den pub.

The following day, music was provided by the bands rocking out at the nearby Magdalen Green for the city’s annual WestFest.
