No rest for Dundee international pair

THERE will be no rest for Dundee’s international pair, Glen Kamara and Craig Wighton, as they’re both expected to report back for pre-season training in just over a fortnight.

The Dark Blues squad are in for pre-season testing on Friday, June 22, and Kamara and Wighton are scheduled to be among them despite being involved for Finland and Scotland.

In fact, both are on international duty this Saturday with Kamara’s Finland hosting Belarus in his birthplace of Tampere and Scotland U/21s facing Turkey for third place in the Toulon Tournament with Wighton hoping for a recall in France.

Former Arsenal man Kamara came off the bench for the Finns in their 2-0 defeat to Romania on Tuesday night despite only joining the international set-up on Monday after his holiday.

It’s likely he’ll play a bigger role in the weekend friendly on home turf.

He’ll then return to Dundee in 15 days time – unless another club swoops in with an offer before then.

Celtic, Rangers and Swansea have all been credited with interest in his services.

Wighton, meanwhile, has been disappointed to find himself on the bench in Scotland’s last two games in Toulon.

After substitute appearances against Togo and France, the Dundonian hasn’t been called upon by coach Scot Gemmill.

The U/21s were beaten once again by England in the semi-final last night – a repeat of last year.

This time around, however, they looked good to surprise Aidy Boothroyd’s men after an impressive first half.

After West Brom’s Oliver Burke smacked the post, Celtic winger Michael Johnston fired in a superb solo goal to put the young Scots 1-0 up at half-time.

Despite deserving that lead, they didn’t turn up for the second period as England knocked in two quickfire goals shortly after the break and then added a third through Eddie Nketiah’s second.

Wighton scored in last year’s third-place play-off as the Scots won and he’ll be hoping to repeat that feat in France.

England, meanwhile, will play Mexico as they aim to retain the trophy they won in 2017.

Glen Kamara won his fourth cap for Finland on Tuesday and is likely to make that five at the weekend as the Finns host Belarus in a friendly.
