NEW BUDDIES BOSS WILL BE AN EXPERT

-

ST MIRREN chairman Gordon Scott admits he is likely to snub the chance to appoint a superstar boss.

Former Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert and exReal Madrid playmaker Guti emerged as potential candidates for the Paisley vacancy in recent days.

But Scott reckons he needs someone with a working knowledge of the Scottish game rather than a high-profile reputation as he looks to carry on the work of former boss Jack Ross and his promotionwinning side.

Former Ross County boss Jim McIntyre, exScotland defender Gary Caldwell and Coleraine manager Oran Kearney remain in the running.

Asked to confirm or deny his interest in Dutchman Kluivert and former Bernabeu favourite Guti, Scott – who hopes to have identified Saints’ new boss by Friday – said: “I wouldn’t rule them out completely but it is very unlikely.

“You need a certain type of manager in this league. You can’t j ust bring i n somebody because they have played in a Champions League Final or for their country. That doesn’t mean they can manage in Scotland.

“We are playing at a certain level and we need to look at that level now. Maybe in four or five years down t he line we’ll be looking at that l evel of manager.

“We need to focus on the Scottish market and, to an extent, t he English market.”
