POLICE were continuing to investigate the suspicious death of a man at a Tayside beauty spot today.

Kinnordy Nature Reserve, near Kirriemuir, was cordoned off yesterday after a man’s body was found in a car park around 5am by a member of the public.

A major police presence descended on the scene with local roads closed as a massive probe got under way.

Police have asked anyone who was in the area between Tuesday and yesterday to get in touch – and said dashcam footage from passing cars could be crucial to t he investigation.

Police remain stationed at the entrance to the park today, which is still not open to the public, and officers have been seen carrying out inquiries around Kirriemuir.

Councillor Ronnie Proctor, who represents the Kirriemuir and Dean ward, said he was “shocked” to hear of the incident.

He said: “Any loss of life, any death, whatever the circumstances, is tragic.

“My thoughts go out to the family and anyone else affected by this.

“I drove past this morning and the road is still blocked off and warning signs were still in place.”

Detective Superintendent James Smith of the major investigation team said: “We are treating the death of the man as suspicious.

“Investigations are being carried out to establish the full circumstances surrounding his death.

“Inquiries are under way to establish the identity of the man and trace his next of kin.

“A member of the public alerted police after finding the body in the car park of Kinnordy Nature Reserve.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in this area between Tuesday June 5 and Thursday June 7, and saw anything suspicious to come forward.

“We are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was driving and has a dashcam.

“You may have captured footage which may be useful to our inquiries and we would like to hear from you.

“Officers have been stationed on the B951 Kirriemuir to Kirkton of Kingoldrum road speaking to motorists and members of the public to establish if they have witnessed anything suspicious on the road or surrounding areas either yesterday or the early hours of this morning.

“A review of CCTV is under way, along with house-to-house inquiries.”
