Pitfour end the season with silverware double
PITFOUR closed their campaign with cups in two age groups.
The U/14 side needed extra time as they beat Fairmuir 2-1 to lift the East Region Cup.
Fairmuir’s Mark Ross smacked the inside of the post in injury time but Torran Juggins proved to be Pitfour’s match-winner with a goal in either half of the extra period. Ryan Hutton netted late on for Fairmuir.
Pitfour U/13 also needed extra time to see off Glenrothes Athletic 2-1 in their East Region Cup Final, with Thomas Drysdale netting the winner. Coach Brett Mackenzie was full of pride at his side’s display, saying: “Some of the football in the first 25 minutes was sensational, we got a deserved goal, perhaps we could have had more but we let them back into it and that made for an entertaining game.”
Brodie Pollock curled in an early free-kick to give Pitfour the lead but Calum Forrest headed Glenrothes level before the break.
There was nothing between the sides in the second half and Drysdale drilled in the winner two minutes into extra time.
Meanwhile, East Craigie Swifts U/17 completed the quadruple as they beat Scone Thistle 5-3 in the East Region Cup Final. Manager Steven Fallon was pleased to see his side clinch the trophy, saying: “We believed we were up there with the best in the region and we wanted to go and prove it.
“It’s not a long tournament, there’s only four or five games in it but you’ve still got to win them and I’m delighted that we’ve done so well.
“In the first half we had to change the way we play and go a wee bit more direct because the main thing was to win the game.
“I’m so happy for the boys, they work so hard and I’m really chuffed to win it because we didn’t go far last season. It is a great achievement.”
Scone led early through Aaron Carlon’s strike but East Craigie levelled through Keir Gardiner on the stroke of half time.
Euan Faulkner headed Swifts into the lead before Hayden Burr converted a penalty to make it 3-1.
Ben Ayton fired in Scone’s second but a free-kick routine, finished by Euan Fallon, reopened East Craigie’s two-goal lead.
Captain Reece Lornie drilled in the fifth in injury time but there was still time remaining for Carlon to net Scone’s third from the penalty spot.
