Saints pair aim to hit goal trail

-

TWO St Johnstone strikers who made their first appearances for the McDiarmid Park side at the end of last season are determined to make their mark in the coming campaign.

David McMillan (28) and 16-year-old John Robertson are at the opposite end of the experience scale.

McMillan was cracking in goals for Dundalk in the Republic of Ireland while completing his studies as an architect before making the move to Saints in the January transfer window.

His first-team chances were limited due to a hamstring injury he picked up in a home match against Partick Thistle but he ended the season in style with goals against Motherwell and Hamilton Accies.

Robertson became the third youngest debutant in Saints’ history when he came on in a 2-1 loss to Dundee at Dens Park and then had further game time from the substitutes bench.

As he prepared for the coming season, Irishman McMillan commented: “After my i njury I was, naturally, delighted to get back playing and the end of the season came too early for me. I wanted it to go on.

“I’ve settled in well at St Johnstone and have found the rest of the players to be a great group.

“I was fortunate to get game ti me before the season’s end and I have my eye on the coming one.

“I’m determined to get off to a good start and have a fine season.”

Robertson has made a great impact after arriving at the club a year ago.

“I signed from Tynecastle Boys’ Club after we had won a lot of cups, including the Scottish,” said John.

“I had interest from a few teams but came to Saints as I thought it was the best option for me.

“Now I’ m progress.” looking to
