What teams will Dundee residents be watching?

THE Saltire will not be making an appearance at this year’s World Cup – but there’s plenty of adopted Dundonians who will be waving the flags of their home nations when the tournament kicks off tomorrow.

Despite Scotland’s failure to make it the finals, the city has arguably never had more people with an interest in proceeding­s over in Russia.

There are 32 nations hoping to claim f ootball’s greatest prize. Citizens from several of those countries – including Nigeria, Tunisia and tournament hosts Russia – now call the City of Discovery home.

With Dundee’s reputation as a truly global city continuing to grow, the Tele spoke to some residents with reason to get excited about the footie.

Among them was Mobolaji Adeniyi, owner the Gidi Grill at City Quay.

The 40-year-old Nigerian is hoping his home nation can make it beyond the group stages.

“I have no idea how we will get on but if we make it to the second round, I will be happy,” he said.

“My wife Eniola is a bigger fan than I am so she too will be cheering on Nigeria.

“It’s great that we have qualified and I’m looking forward to following the tournament.”

Meanwhile Tatiana Gray, 50, who works at the Russian School in Dundee, will be paying a visit to her native Russia during the tournament and is hopeful of getting a tciket to a match.
