City unites for the World Cup
DESPITE the fact Scotland are not there, local football fans will have a great deal of interest in the World Cup as neutrals (see pages 12&13).
But perhaps more than ever, many residents in Dundee and beyond will have a vested interest in the tournament – because their countries are taking part.
The range of nations represented in our communities shows just how multi-cultural they have become.
And it’s also an indication as to how big a part the various nationalities play in everyday life here.
From restaurant and shop owners to leading academics and teachers, virtually every walk of life in the city has international representation of some kind.
There will even, no doubt, be plenty of backing for the Auld Enemy – if not among Dundee natives, certainly among those from south of the Border who live and work here.
It’s a wonderful celebration of the various cultures we have in Dundee and a chance for people from all parts of the world to unite over the next four weeks.
