Ricky and his support were a music treat

-

A VERY important mention must be given to Ricky Ross’s brilliant support provided by Roseanne Reid at his show in Perth Theatre last week.

The now Dundee resident singer-songwriter performed a brilliant set of songs which were received very well by the audience.

Sadly, we will need to wait till later in the year to buy her new album. She should be caught live if possible as her voice and playing is stunning

It is extremely rare that an artist live can impress you each time you see them, but Ricky Ross has achieved this consistently.

Despite seeing him only last year in Dundee, this show at Perth Theatre was even better.

His voice has that quality and tone to make songs you might not know feel like old favourites, while Deacon Blue songs sounded new with the solo show interpretation.

This short tour of only three or four dates ended in Perth and joining him on stage was the excellent Pumpkin Seeds String Trio who added a magical tone and depth to the songs.

Perth was the only show they joined Ricky on stage, so a treat missed from the previous shows.

This was the first solo show we had seen where he didn’t play Dignity.

A very minor disappointment, but I’m pretty sure The Hydro show with the rest of the group in December will have it. It is very difficult not to over-enthuse about Ricky’s solo concert.

Any Deacon Blue fan should not miss his future shows – shock horror he talks to the audience as well, take note other bands.

The icing on the musical cake was meeting Ricky after the show with my wife Alison for a photograph (above) and autographs, a generous and courteous guy if ever there was one.

Alex Ireland, Perth.
