£30k upgrade at park

New play equipment will be put in place at pavilion

Dundee Decides was a project run by the local authority, giving residents the opportunity to decide how a £1.2 million Community Infrastructure Fund should be spent.

The fund will be used to make improvements based upon suggestions identified during the Engage Dundee consultation.

Each of the eight electoral wards was allocated up to £150,000 to spend on infrastructure improvements.

In Strathmartine, one of four projects given the go ahead was a £30,000 upgrade to play equipment at Downfield Pavilion.

A design statement – including an artist’s impression – has been released showing how the new equipment will look.

A tower slide, balance beam, crawling pyramid, seesaw dolphin springer and balance poles are among the equipment which will be installed.

Strathmartine councillor Kevin Keenan said he was confident the new playpark would benefit the local community.

Mr Keenan, who is leader of the Labour group on the council, said: “This was one of the Dundee Decides projects, so people in the local community wanted it. The park itself is very well-used by local community groups and sports teams, so the equipment will be put to good use.

“It’s good to see t his sort of democratic process on a local level, and these individual projects being carried out with council funds voted for by the project.

“I think, for kids who may be there for football training, the hope is that younger brothers and sisters will get the use of it.”

The other winning projects i n Strathmartine are to a refurbishment of Clatto Park toilets, and improvement to pavements on Beauly Avenue and Haldane Crescent.
