Blue skies, sunshine and a trendsetting first dance

THESE childhood sweethearts were meant to be – they have been an item since they were just 15.

Paula and Kyle Wilson, both 28, were married at the scenic Balbirnie House Hotel in Fife, 12 years after they first met.

The pair, who stay in Trottick, tied the knot on May 12.

Paula, a sales manager, and Kyle, a plumber, first met in their mid-teens after accompanying their pals who were meeting each other for a date.

Paula said: “One of my friends was planning to meet one of Kyle’s friends so we had both tagged along as moral support.

“After we met we chatted on MSN, like you did back in those days, and we have been together ever since.”

In May 2015 the loved-up couple took a trip to Rome just after finding out they were expecting a baby.

“I was gutted that I was going to Rome and wasn’t going to be able to have a drink – I think that is why Kyle decided to propose there to cheer me up a bit,” Paula added.

In the early evening of May 1, they took a romantic walk around Rome and followed a crowd up a grand set of outdoor steps. At the top, the pair sat beside a beautiful lake with a fountain in the middle and the sunset turned the sky into an orangey haze above.

As they were leaving Paula started to walk away before being pulled back by Kyle, who was on one knee with a ring when she turned round.

Paula reminisced: “Kyle must have been so scared, he didn’t even say anything when I turned round and saw him.

“I don’t know why he was so nervous – it wasn’t as if I was going to say no.”

After the proposal and the birth of their son Kian, who is now almost three, the bride picked May 12 as her wedding date as it was the month she got engaged.

As the big day approached, the weather turned nasty and Paula became worried she had chosen the wrong date.

However, when she awoke that morning the sun was beaming and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky.

She said: “From then I was so calm. It was amazing that I was going to get my wedding outside in the sunshine.

“The staff at Balbirnie were fantastic and couldn’t have done anything more for me. I am usually a total stress head but they made me so calm and content.”

Paula admits she isn’t the most emotional of women but that when she received her wedding gift of a watch from Kyle that morning, she did shed a tear.

Topping off a beautiful ceremony in the gardens, the reception was kicked off by wedding band Groove Culture who performed Ben E King’s Stand By Me for their first dance.

The bride said: “That was the highlight of the day for me. It was beautifully performed and I felt like a trendsetter when a week later Meghan and Harry picked the song too.”

The newlyweds would like to say a special thank you to all of their friends and family who attended the wedding and also a massive thank you for all the gifts they received. They would also like to thank Lyndsay Phillip Photography for their wedding photos.

Paula added: “I wouldn’t change a thing about my wedding – it was amazing.”
