Disappointment is a spur for Dokens

- BY GRAEME FINNAN

NORTH End president Robert Moran admits he’s “disappointed” his club won’t be playing Super League football next season.

The Dokens will again line up in the North League following this week’s East Region meeting when clubs voted to finalise the structure and make up of the leagues.

As expected, three leagues of 12 (Super, Premier North and Premier South) was given the nod while a ranking system was used to determine who plays where.

That saw Kirrie Thistle, who finished bottom of last season’s Premier League, being named as one of the Super League clubs, while, North End, who were North League champions, will remain in the same division next term.

While accepting the decision had been carried by a majority vote, it was still a bitter pill for Moran and his club to swallow.

However, he is determined they will come out fighting and look to finish in top spot again in 12 months’ time.

He said: “It’s disappointing that people voted for a ranking system over a meritbased system. It basically means that teams that should have been relegated have now been promoted.

“It’s a difficult one for me because I have to explain it to my committee, the players and our sponsors.

“I’ve actually had members of our committee who want to resign because of this. That’s not a good place to be because good committee people are so difficult to find.

“We just have to dust ourselves down, get on with it and go out and win the league again next season.

“We’ve still got most of our squad and we will strengthen further over the summer.

“We’ll also be fighting for a cause so, hopefully, that will spur us on.”

Meanwhile, the Dokens will have two new clubs under their umbrella next season. One is joining the Dundee and District Youth FA U/19 League while the other will be in the amateur ranks playing in the Dundee Saturday Morning Football League.
