Baldwin hopes fade for Dundee

-

DUNDEE’S hopes of l a n d i n g Pe t e r b o ro u g h captain Jack Baldwin look slim after Sunderland and Bolton entered the race to sign the defender.

The Dark Blues made a bid f or t he 24-year-old centre-back earlier this month but fell short of the £250,000 asking price.

Baldwin is on the transfer list at London Road after an inconsistent season and manager Steve Evans has already brought in Jason Naismith from Ross County.

Aberdeen had earlier made advances, though their i nterest has since cooled, and now two former English Premier League clubs are eyeing a move.

New Sunderland boss Jack Ross is busy rebuilding his squad as he aims to get the Black Cats back to the Championship at the first time of asking and a move back to the north-east after starting his career at Hartlepool might suit Baldwin.

However, Championship side Bolton are also chasing him.

Meanwhile, Dundee’s players returned for pre-season today.

The club’s youth players reported for duty yesterday and were joined by the firstteam squad this morning.

Manager Neil McCann and his coaching team put them through their paces for testing ahead of preparations for the new campaign.

The club have also moved to bolster their U/18 squad, led by coach James McPake , by signing defender Ethan Smith, goalkeeper Harrison Sharp and winger Nathan Meres.
