Mercury to reach 29C
Tayside temperatures to rival Corfu and Istanbul
TEMPERATURES could soar to almost 30 degrees in the city this week, beating top holiday destinations in Europe in the heat stakes.
Yesterday saw the city bask in temperatures as high as 25C, on what meterologists believe was the hottest day of the year so far.
But even Sunday’s temperatures could be surpassed this week, with British Weather Services saying temperatures could continue to increase before peaking at 29C on Thursday.
Meteorologist consultant Jim Dale said: “Yesterday was a good day and it will increase every day this week.”
He did warn, however, that there could be a risk of thunderstorms, although they will be scattered.
Tayside is set to rival Istanbul, Barcelona and Corfu with the temperatures expected during the week.
According to the Met office website, the minimum temperature this week will be 10C.
High levels of UV are expected, as well as very high levels of pollen.
Last week the Met Office said there was “no end in sight” to the sunny weather in Dundcee.
Emma Sullitoe, from the Met Office, said: “On Monday we’re going to get between 22-23C and then 24-25C so it’s looking really good for the next while.
“It’s going to be very warm, particularly for this time for year.
“The average is between 16-17C so that’s an 9C increase on the usual temperature for this time of year.
“We’ve also got high levels of UV and high levels of pollen across the area as well.
“The southern half of the UK will push towards 30C.
“Last year, the warmest level we saw was 19.5C.
“From what we’re seeing it looks as though there’s going to be no end in sight to the good weather in the Tayside region.”
Met Office statistics for the first part of June show it is on track to be Scotland’s hottest month since 1940.
