Resident’s fears over barriers

-

A DUNDEE resident has hit out at the city council for failing to tackle a road safety hazard.

David O’Neill accused the authority of ignoring his repeated calls f or something to be done about railings close to his Lochee Road house.

He said the railings had been hit by passing traffic on at least 20 occasions in the past two years.

Following the most recent damage, a temporary crash barrier was installed as a safety measure. However, Mr O’Neill said t his had caused issues of its own by toppling into the road.

“The barriers keep coming loose, either because of the recent winds or teenagers mucking about and tearing them down,” he said. “I had been pulling them from the road, but I have been told not to touch them in case I am made liable.”

Mr O’Neill said efforts to get the council to remedy the situation had come to nothing. “I called the rapid response team several times and was told something would be done,” he said.

“I called the police nonemergency number too, because I was worried about an accident, but they said it was a matter for the council.

“The whole thing is an accident waiting to happen. I have watched so many cars skid to avoid the barriers on the road, or swerve at the last minute to make sure they don’t hit them.”

A spokesman for Dundee City Council said: “We are aware of the situation and replacement barriers will be installed in due course.”
