Disabled pensioner ‘trapped’

-

A DISABLED Dundee pensioner who is often “trapped in her home” due to motorists blocking her driveway has called for the council to take action.

Elizabeth Wilson wants the local authority to paint a white line in front of her house on Charleston Drive.

The 78-year-old, who has missed hospital appointments due to the problem, has resorted to calling the police to deal with the bad parking.

She spoke out after Dundee City Council announced it has created about 80 extra parking spaces for disabled people outside their homes.

Mrs Wilson, who has multiple health problems, said: “Unfortunately the council has not been able to help me. I have a blue badge but I can’t get a disabled space because I have a private driveway.

“But I often can’t get out of the house.”

Mrs Wilson said she has asked the council for a white line, but has been “passed from pillar to post”.

A spokesman for the local authority said: “The council will be in touch to discuss options.”

Several vehicles were damaged during the weekend crime spree, including Meghan Davidson’s Ford Fiesta.

Vehicles outside homes on Greenbank Place, Atholl Street, Ancrum Drive and Peel Street were targeted.

Police Scotland said the vandalism took place between Friday night and the early hours of Saturday morning.

Meghan, 22, who has lived on Atholl Street for three years, said the incident had made her feel “unsafe” in her own house, after a wall outside her home was also spray painted with graffiti.

Her dark blue vehicle was scrawled with the words “sex is good”, and her passenger side window was smashed in.

Her passport, bank card and a small sum of money were taken.

The support worker said: “I had just gone out to my car on Saturday morning as I was on my way to work when I noticed the damage to my car.

“I can only assume one of my neighbours had contacted the police.

“The police were here for around an hour. I think they found some blood around the vehicle.

“The vandals also spray painted a wall outside my flat and I’ve been made aware other areas were targeted nearby.

“Judging by some of things that were written it would suggest this has maybe been the actions of teenagers.

“I must admit this is the first time anything like this has happened in the area but it does make me feel unsafe.

“I had to miss a day at work to deal
