Increased risk of suicide
SOME cancer patients are at significantly increased risk of suicide, which is highest in the first six months following diagnosis but continues to be elevated for at least two years, experts from Public Health England and University College London found.
Patients diagnosed with mesothelioma, pancreatic, oesophageal, lung and stomach cancers were found to be at highest risk. Researchers examined data on more than four million patients – more than 2,000 died by suicide.
