Wozniacki may face Konta test

CAROLINE Wozniacki will face Johanna Konta or Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic in the third round of the Nature Valley Internatio­nal after easing past Camila Giorgi.

The 27-year-old Dane had been given a bye to the second round and, after being broken in her first service game, outclassed her Italian opponent, winning 6-2 6-3.

Britain’s Konta meets Krunic today but her compatriot Heather Watson has been eliminated following her 6-7 (2/7) 7-5 6-3 defeat by France’s Kristina Mladenovic.

After taking the first set of a competitiv­e affair, the 26-year-old, a wild card in Eastbourne, eventually lost in two hours and 40 minutes, missing out on a second-round fixture with Australia’s Ashleigh Barty.

Unexpected­ly, fellow Briton Harriet Dart secured her first WTA main draw victory, by beating Kristyna Pliskova 7-5 3-6 6-3.

Karolina Pliskova won 6-4 2-6 6-3 against Anastasia Pavlyuchen­kova of Russia, and there were also victories for Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova, via a 7-5 6-4 scoreline over Ekaterina Makarova of R u s s i a , a n d Po l a n d ’s Agnieszka Radwanska, who defeated Timea Babos of Hungary 6-3 6-1.

Australian Sam Stosur lost to Belgium’s Alison Van Uytvanck 5-7 7-6 (7/3) 6-3, while Kaia Kanepi of E s t o n i a b e a t J a p a n ’s Ku r u m i N a r a 6 - 2 6 - 4 , Romanian Mihaela Buzarnescu defeated China’s Shuai Peng 5-7 6-2 6-1 and Krunic won 7-5 6-3 against Czech Andrea Sestini Hlavackova.

Finally, Aryna Sabalenka won 4-6 6-0 6-1 against American Sachia Vickery and Su-Wei Hsieh overcame Natalia Vikhlyants­eva 7-6 (7/4) 6-2.
