-

ST JOHNSTONE head to Austria t omorrow f or a week of pre-season training.

Goalkeeper Dean Lyness is on trial with them.

The 26-year-old was with National League North side Nuneaton Town in 2017-18 and trained with Saints at the end of last season.

He was previously with Birmingham City, Hearts, Kidderminster Harriers, Burton Albion and Blackpool, playing 37 times for the Burton first team.

One man not i n the travelling party is Callum Davidson.

The Saints No 2 has headed off to Stoke City to be the assistant to their team boss Gary Rowett.

The pair have been friends since their time together as players at Leicester City.

“In a l ot of ways I’ m disappointed he’s gone because we worked so well together,” said Saints team boss Tommy Wright.

“However, I am also delighted for him to get the chance to move to England with a club like Stoke.”

To m m y is putting together a “new structure” as he seeks to bring in a fresh member of staff to replace Davidson. The manager himself and Alec Cleland will look after the players in Austria this week.

Regarding playing additions to the squad, Tommy intimated that only Lyness will be going to Austria with the club.

He added: “There are players available and players we are targeting, so there will be signings. But nothing is imminent before we leave for Austria.”
