Festival of Strings event planned for Caird Hall

-

YOUNG musicians across Dundee and Scotland are being given the opportunity to make music together thanks to a worldclass violinist and Big Noise.

Nicola Benedetti, along with the charity, is inviting young string players to take part in its Super Strings sessions alongside teachers from the Big Noise to form one-off string ensembles.

The Super Strings sessions, which are supported by the People’s Postcode Lottery, will take place across Aberdeen, Stirling and Glasgow, and the project will finish with a Festival of Strings Day at the Caird Hall on October 9.

Ms Benedetti said: “I am grateful to my friends at Sistema Scotland for facilitating these Super Strings sessions for children and young people across Scotland and to players of People’s Postcode Lottery for providing the funding to make this project a reality.

“This is a very fitting way for me to help celebrate Sistema Scotland and also Big Noise’s 10th birthday.

“I am also delighted that alongside the artistic and social aims of the sessions, there will be time for children and young people to share their thoughts and opinions.

“I want to help young string players in Scotland to develop a shared voice to celebrate everything that is good about making music together.”

The Big Noise programme, run by Sistema Scotland, aims to use music to help transform the lives of youngsters living in disadvantaged communities.
