Dozens of police move in to make arrest

-

POLICE Scotland have confirmed a man was a rrested on a warrant following an incident at the Wellgate Shopping Centre yesterday afternoon.

Dozens of police officers were seen in and around the shopping centre shortly before midday.

Witnesses said some officers were carrying Tasers as they stood guard near the Citizens Advice Bureau.

One shopper said there were six police vehicles near Victoria Road during the incident before the man was arrested.

The matter drew to a conclusion as the man and a woman approached the Wellgate Library entrance.

Officers were seen speaking to the man who was using a walking aid before he was escorted to a nearby police estate car.

A shopper said: “The Wellgate was buzzing with police, there was a police sergeant patrolling the floors.

“Other officers were standing at the foot of the library stairs beside the old Iceland store.

“What amazed me was neither the library nor the Citizens Advice Bureau appeared to be closed off during the incident.

“As soon as they got the boy the other police vehicles that had been parked on Ladywell Avenue left.”

He added: “I can only assume it was this one guy they were looking for.

“He was walking with two women.”
