Lived up to reputation for excellent food

I’VE driven past this hotel many times and been told about how tasty the food is even more often, so it was time to see if it would live up to its excellent reputation.

I printed off a menu from the website – the takeaway is Indian food and there is a huge selection.

I opted for the one of the set meals for two, consisting of chicken pakora, one chicken kurma, one lamb bhuna and fried rice. I changed to a peshwari nan. Meals also come with two popadoms and onion chutney.

I phoned in the order and it was ready when I went to collect it. There is a car park at the back of the hotel, but it is quite small and was jam-packed, so I ended up parking out on the street. Maybe best to just park there first.

It was a big, heavy bag of food that I collected from the restaurant (which, by the way, looked lovely and offers European food too).

We had four good-sized pakora which came with a small ashet of chilli sauce, the spiced onion was in the same-sized dish. Heaps of it. The batter was a little spicy for one of us, but I thought it was OK and the chicken was lovely.

Not being experience­d with fried rice, we were surprised by the dark colour of it, however, it tasted great. The lamb bhuna was packed with tender pieces of meat, tomatoes and vegetables and the creamy kurma’s chicken was cooked to perfection.

On our first wee nibble of the nan bread, we thought they’d been a bit sparing with the coconut, but getting further into it we found lots. It was absolutely delicious and I continued to stuff bits in my gob long after my tummy was full, it was just too good to leave.
