Gaffer Tommy insists Saints will Wright losing run

-

ST JOHNSTONE manager Tommy Wr ight bel ieves h is side w i l l bounce back to winning ways as Hamilton beat Saints 2-1 at New Douglas Park last night.

The Perth men have now lost their last four games, twice to Celtic, once to Hearts and now to Hamilton, a team they have beaten umpteen times in recent years.

Saints brought in Liam Craig and Michael O’Halloran for Danny Swanson and Murray Davidson and it was Craig who levelled George Oakley’s opener for the home side. However, Oakley then quickly restored Hamilton’s lead and, despite a late surge, the McDiarmid Park men could not force a leveller.

Tommy said: “It was a poor result and poor goals we’ve given away, which have cost us. We should deal with both goals.

“I probably thought we did enough for a draw but when you make mistakes like we did, it’s hard to get any points. The players will be strong enough to bounce back. We’ve had worse runs than this.”

Saints now face Celtic away in the Scottish Cup on Sunday having lost 2-0 twice to them in the league lately. After that it’s Rangers at Ibrox in the league, then home league fixtures against Aberdeen and Hibs.

Hamilton team boss Brian Rice was, naturally, delighted to get his first win since taking on the job last week.

He commented: “We deserved to win. The players were positive and showed plenty of effort. We were positive and our defence held firm. This was a massive win, a good night for us.”
