Cavanagh bolsters Lochee cup hopes

- BY JUNICUS

LOCHEE United are hoping it’s a case of third time lucky as they make another attempt to get their Scottish Cup fifth-rou nd tie played at Craigmark.

After two postponements the signs look a bit more positive for this week.

The Bluebells will have new signing Danny Cavanagh in their squad.

The former Montrose man is no stranger to Thomson Park, having played for the club in the past.

Manager George Shields is confident his side can go through but is expecting a tough tie.

He will again be without Alan Tulleth, Craig Smith and Danny Millar.

Should Lochee win, they will face Troon away in the last eight.

Carnoustie head for Scone Thistle in the Thorntons League Cup.

This could be a tricky tie for the Gowfers.

Thistle have a formidable record on their home patch and they will see their Super League visitors as a major scalp.

Carnoustie manager Phil McGuire is looking for a change in attitude following their 5-0 defeat from Broughty in their last outing and delays naming his final selection.

Scone know they must win by three clear goals to pip the visitors to top spot on goal difference.

Though it is a tall order, Thistle are unbeaten at home in the league and have a full squad available.

The clash of landlords, Downfield against tenants Harp, provides plenty of interest.

The sides go i nto the tie with vastly-different records since the turn of the year.

Harp have won all three matches, played in some style, while the Spiders have struggled and are still looking for their first win of 2019.

Michael Gormley’s Harp side also have a score to settle after losing narrowly when the teams met in the first tie and they might just fancy their chances of turning the tables. Both sides have full squads available.

North End host Blairgowrie in the same competition and, having won the corresponding fixture at Davie Park 2-1, the Dokens should be confident of bagging another three points.

With Robbie Hood working and Gordon Norrie suspended, Blairgowrie have a squad of 16 available.

Kirrie Thistle will be out to avenge their defeat in the first meeting when they entertain Brechin Vics.

However, more importantly, Chris Kettle’s side must win by two goals to leapfrog Forfar WE and win the group.

The hosts are without Sean Diamond and John Farquarson, while a couple of others face fitness tests. Brechin expect to be at full strength. Kinnoull visit West Calder requiring just a draw to win the group.

The game has been switched because of flooding in the Kinnoull changing-rooms..

?? ?? Kinnoull had to settle for an indoor training session last Saturday. The Perth side will hope to get back in action tomorrow when they visit West Calder in the Thorntons Property League Cup.
