Keep early momentum urges new boy Peter

DUNDEE United’s star Ja nua r y sig n i ng Peter Pawlett has urged his new team-mates to keep their early momentum going by dumping Premiership St Mirren out of the cup.

The former Aberdeen forward joined the Tangerines last week from English League Two side MK Dons and i mmediately impressed, scoring and playing a vital role i n last weekend’s 2-1 win over Morton at Tannadice.

It was an ideal start for Pawlett and the other new faces brought in during a busy January window and he wants the Tangerines to keep that up at the Simple Digital Arena tomorrow.

The pressure of the Championship title race may be lifted this weekend but heading to a Premiership club in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup is no small matter to the club.

Pawlett said: “We can enjoy it this weekend but we want to progress, it’s not like it’s a free weekend or anything being off league duty.

“We all want to get through – if we can keep winning, keep the momentum going that’s what we want.

“You want to win every game and the Scottish Cup is a massive competition, you want to get as far as possible in it and we want to continue where we left off last weekend, work hard, enjoy our football and, hopefully, we’ll do alright.

“We know St Mirren is a tough place to go but I think we can get a result.

“They are a Premiership side and we need to test ourselves at that level.

“It’ll be tough but we’re confident in each other and trust each other we can get a result.”
